HOW IT STARTED
Sometimes the most fortunate discoveries are made when they are least expected. Our founder, Janina Fürup, a practicing physiotherapist, was visiting Namibia when she came up with the idea for ABA CROSS. After seeing people having to carry children with special needs, up to five kilometers to the nearest therapy centre without the assistance of equipment or wheelchairs, Janina was sure: “There must be a better way.”
That's when the seed was planted.
THE PROBLEM
Everyone is familiar with the classic baby carrier, but not much consideration has been given to carrying larger or heavier children. The standard carrier is not adjustable and digs into the carrying person’s shoulders. As a result, not only does the child feel uncomfortable, but the burden is heavy for the carrying person as well.
THE SOLUTION
With all of the knowledge and experience our founder has from working as a physiotherapist, Janina began to imagine a system that could help everyone involved. She thought about how to stabilise the child in the correct therapeutic position to prevent pain, strain and long-term developmental problems. And at the same time about how to support the ones who carry. After creating the first prototype, Janina knew she was onto something impactive that would change our expectations of the standard child carrier.
CURRENT SITUATION
There is a reason that everyone who tries ABA CROSS agrees that it is superior to any standard carrier they have ever tried. ABA CROSS is designed to meet the needs of all its users. The special features like varying sizes, adjustable parts and the general form result in the best possible posture for everyone involved. As an added bonus, the design of the carrier is also extremely clever and stylish!
LOCAL PRODUCTION
ABA CROSS is handmade with love in Goreangab, Katutura, Windhoek. Our aim is to provide carriers that help families of children with and without special needs. We employ local personnel to address the issues of unemployment and social inequality in the community.
COMMUNITY WORK
In order to bring our innovative carriers to the less fortunate community we do cooperate with several national and international NGOs.
